Trekking In Nepal
Trekking in Nepal is the special and rewarding sport for mountain lovers, who like to discover the diverse range of flora and fauna, varieties of the culture or simply to spend their holidays in majestic mountains. Trekking in the Himalayas can either be one day hike to reach atop a mountain or can be a hiking for the whole one month passing through villages in the shadow of towering snowy peaks, valleys, mountain passes by experiencing rich cultures, customs and magnificent views of the Himalayas in Nepal.
Nepal’s trekking routes pass through the forests of rhododendron, bamboo and oak and through the sub tropical region to alpine and different landscapes, lush alpine meadows and rocky snow covered passes, ice falls, glaciers, high altitude and frozen lakes. When you trek in Nepal, you get a chance to see nature, rural communities and spectacular mountains. Thus, trekking here is not just making to the destination; rather it is a journey to explore yet unexplored places, the variety of culture, religion, festivals and castes among others. Moreover, it is to explore the diverse lifestyle of friendly people belonging to many different ethnic groups inhabiting in mountain regions. No doubt, the hospitality of the people living in the mountains enchants trekkers in such a way that they come again and again and build fondest memories of Nepal throughout their life.
Mt. Everest has inspired countless dreams and adventures, including visions of scaling the highest mountain on earth to those of getting a taste of the high mountains with a pack on their back and a camera in hand; ready to capture some incredible views of the lofty snowy mountain peaks that seem to grow in this region.
The original route taken on the first ascent of Everest was from Jiri, but now the usual approach to this region begins with a breathtaking flight from Kathmandu to Lukla airstrip (2,800 meters). Here you are surrounded by the glistening spires of snow peaks from the start of the trek, and they only get higher and more magnificent as you go. The route is dotted by sacred Tibetan Buddhist mani stones (engraved with prayers and Buddhist images), prayer flags, and the occasional stupa (representing the mind of Buddha). The winding Dudha and Bhote Koshi rivers are a beautiful glacier-fed aqua blue, joined by many tributaries supporting waterfalls. Trekkers can wander up to bustling Namche Bazaar, to the revered Tengboche Monastery, to crystalline Gokyo Lake, historic Everest Base Camp, and many other remarkable places in the Everest region. You share the trail with yak trains and Tibetan nomads and can choose to stay in simple but welcoming guesthouses in all but the most remote areas. Treks can be from one week to more than a month. Expect to take some rest days for acclimatization as most trails quickly go above 3,500 meters. Level of trekking: moderate to strenuous.
The Annapurna region lies towards the north of Central Nepal. This area is the most popular and major trekking destination in Nepal. According to a recent survey by Modern Maturity (USA) Annapurna region has been recognized as one of the world’s best trekking trails. More than 40,000 tourists annually visit this area. The Annapurna trekking region consists of peaks Annapurna I, II, III, IV, those of Annapurna South peaks, Mt. Dhaulagiri and several other peaks. The trek’s major highlights are the ancient mid-western salt route settlement of Manang, Thorong –La pass between Nepal and Tibet, Muktinath Temple and the deepest gorge of world Kali Gandaki. Gateway to Annapurna trekking region is the famous city of Pokhara.
The Langtang National Park was established in 1976 and is Nepal’s second largest national park, the first being the Shey-Phoksumdo in the Dolpo region of west Nepal. The park is rich in bird life, mammals and over 1000 varieties of plants. The spring season brings a mass of bright colours created mostly by the extravagant display of rhododendron flowers.
The Langtang area is easily accessible from the Kathmandu valley, passing first through the foothills, ridges and forests of the Helambu region. Unlike Langtang, Helambu does not boast lofty peaks, but it does provide technically easy access to summits that can be seen glistening in the sun.
To the southwest of Langtang, and northwest of Helambu, lies the Gosainkund Lake and within its ridges and folds lay several small lakes, the biggest of which is Gosainkunda, the site of a major Hindu festival held in July – August, at the time of the full moon. Thousands of pilgrims trek this route to bath in these holy waters during the festival time.
There is a good trail from Sundarijal, just a few kilometres from the east side the Kathmandu valley in Boudhanath, all the way through the Helambu region, over the Laurebina La to Gosainkunda and in to Langtang, a fine and demanding expedition for the fit and hardened mountain trekker.
Dhaulagiri (White Mountain) is a challenging trek around the Dhaulagiri massif (8167m), the seventh highest mountain in the world. Dhaulagiri is a long trek that goes far beyond the normal haunts of trekkers and tourists, to remote areas of the country where the landscapes are wild and untamed and where the local inhabitants have seen little change in their way of life for centuries- untouched corners of an increasingly crowded planet. It is physically challenging, likely to include unfavorable weather conditions and strenuous activities, such as, climbing/ scrambling across high passes. The trekking in this area is relatively strenuous and needs some mountaineering knowledge.
The trek start from Beni, after long day drive from Kathmandu going through nice village in the beginning and through high and remote area and trail crosses Myagdi Glacier, trekking into the Dhaulagiri Himal to the Italian Base Camp and Dhaulagiri Base Camp(4750m), French pass 5360m) providing the excellent view of Putali Himal and Tukuche Peak, the highest point of the trek to hidden snowy valley then after Thapa or Dhampus pass Along the way, there are wonderful view of gigantic face of Dhaulagiri and annapurna range
